General Information

What is a computer wallpaper?
A computer wallpaper is the image that you see behind your 'desktop'. The desktop is the screen where your icons are.

What does resolution mean?
This is the resolution of the wallpaper in pixels. In other words, it is the size of the actual image.

To display a wallpaper on your desktop correctly you have to use a wallpaper that has the same screen resolution as is being used by your monitor. Different monitors can display different screen resolutions. The most common one's are: 800x600, 1024x768, 1152x864, 1280x1024, 1600x1200.

Do not get too hung-up about image resolution because modern versions of Windows have the ability to resize the image to fit the screen, Microsoft refer to this as 'stretching' the image. In the display properties you can set this on the 'Desktop' tab.

How do I know what my screen resolution is?
The following method applies to Microsoft Windows.

Pick a blank are of your computer screen. Click the right hand button of your mouse and choose 'Properties'. A dialogue box will appear entitles "Display properties". This box has a number of tabs. Select the tab called 'settings'. You will now be able to see your current screen resolution and be able to change it.

Warning: Before changing your resolution always use the windows test facility to ensure that your monitor is capable of displaying the required number of pixels, colours or refresh rate.

How do I set the image I like as my wallpaper?
Firstly, select the image you want to use and ensure you have the large size image on the screen (not the 'thumbnail' image in the Wallpaper Gallery).

Next, do one of the following:
Windows PC's: Right click on the image and choose "Set as Wallpaper".
Mac's: Drag the image from the browser window onto your desktop.

If you want to use the image later or use more than one image with a wallpaper changer you can also use the right click but this time choose "Save picture as" and save the file to a suitable folder on your hard drive.

If you save it and want to use it as your wallpaper then right click on the desktop, choose 'Properties', then the tab 'Desktop', click 'Browse' and navigate to the location where you just saved the image.

How many wallpapers can I download?
You can download as many wallpapers as you like.

Is this a free website?
Yes it is.
